Bhakti Sharma is well known as an Indian open Water swimmer and she has made record as a first Asian women and the youngest open water swimmer in Antarctic water’s swimming.
Biography: She was born on 30 Nov 1989 in Mumbai to Leena Sharma, Chandra Shekar Sharma. She belongs from Udaipur. After some year her family moved to Udaipur, Rajasthan.
Education: She took her masters degree of Communication Management from Symbiosis School of Media and Communication, Bengaluru and her bachelor’s degree from Mohan Lal Sukhadia University, Udaipur, Rajasthan.
Achievements: Bhakti Sharma is the first Asian woman and the youngest open water swimmer, who set world record for open swimming in Antarctic waters with her swimming of 1.4 miles (2.3 km) distance in 41.14 minutes with 1 °C (34 °F) temperature. She has crossed the record of Lynne Cox (USA) and Lewis Pugh (Great Britain).
She has made so many records and her swimming has been done in 5 Oceans in all over the world and 8 other seas. She got award of Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award in 2010.
Before Fame: She started learning swimming at her 2.5 year age and her coach was her own mother Leena Sharma. After swam in so many competitions at district and state level, she swam first open water (sea) for 16 km swim from Uran port to Gateway of India in 2003 and that time she was only 14 year old.
She has made another record on English channel of the Asian record for the first swim by a 3-member women’s relay team in 2003. And that time her mother and her friend Priyanka Gehlot both were cheering for her.
